Buster & Castle’s Portrait Session

Ever since I’ve known the Hallgrens they have been an animal loving family to both cats and dogs.  Their two cats Buster and Castle have such different personalities, but are both equally endearing and full of charm. Because I’ve known the two cats for awhile, photographing these furbabies was like photographing my own family!  Julia, who is thirteen, is the cat whisperer of the house.  Like all cat loving guardians she has a special bond to Buster and Castle and loves to talk about them. Here are a few things Julia shared with me about her special boys.

Kitty’s name, nicknames, age and breed:

Buster is six and is a Norwegian Forest Cat.  Castle is two and is a tabby.  Castle’s nickname is Bub.

What do you love about your cat? What are some endearing traits or things your cat does?

I love that both of my cats have different personalities. Castle is lazy, eats a lot, chubby, but he is very sweet. Buster is the alpha animal of the house. Having his younger sibling, Castle, can be hard, plus the two dogs we have. Buster tells everyone who’s boss. If the dogs get in a little fight, Buster gets in between to stop it. Castle loves to be around his brother, Buster. Castle can be skittish, but he’s super sweet.

Was your cat adopted from a rescue group, shelter or something of the like? If yes, what organization? If no, do you care to share their adoption story?

Buster was rescued from the Humane Society, in Nashville. We knew we wanted him since before him, we had two Norwegian Forest Cats. He was a year to two years old, and was happy we took him home. We wonder still, if the two cats before him are related, because they were also rescued there too. Castle has a crazy story. His mom, Autumn, we knew, lived on my uncles porch for a year, and had a litter of kittens! So, my Uncle didn’t want the kittens to get eaten, since his house is in the woods, so he took them inside. There were three girls and two boys in the litter. My brother came over to look after them, and instantly fell in love with the light sherbet colored kitten, we decided to called him Castle.

Did you choose any particular props to be included in the portrait session?

I trusted Angela’s great expertise to do a wonderful job, so I let her do her thing!

What is your kitty’s favorite toy and/or activity?

My kitty’s favorite toy is a bamboo stick and a ski glove.

What is your kitty’s least favorite thing?

Castle absolutely hates plastic bags being rustled, or being held. Being held is hard for him because he’s a chubby kitty, so if you hold him a specific way, he can’t breathe. That’s why I only hold him, because he knows I’m the one that holds him right. Buster really is okay with a lot of things. He loves music, and to play with our puppy. I guess, Buster doesn’t like shrimp.

What is a purrfect day for kitty?

The purrfect day for our cats are to sleep, and lay in the sun with a full belly of food. Also, watching the birds and squirrels.

What is the craziest thing your kitty has ever done?

Buster was so sad one time when my dad left for a trip, he escaped out the door and ran away. We didn’t know for hours and finally went “where’s buster?” We found him in our neighbor’s yard and were so glad he wasn’t lost. Castle, he was so hungry, he jumped on the counter, then onto the table and slid, he’s so silly.

What rules do your kitty like to break?

Eating each others food, and eating any new flowers we get.

How would you describe your overall experience? Any advice for other people considering having their kitty/kitties photographed?

I enjoyed Angela. She has a great eye, and has a great personality!
