Ever since I’ve known the Hallgrens they have been an animal loving family to both cats and dogs.  Their two cats Buster and Castle have such different personalities, but are both equally endearing and full of charm. Because I’ve known the two cats for awhile, photographing these furbabies was like photographing my own family!  Julia, who is thirteen, is the cat whisperer of the house.  Like all cat loving guardians she has a special bond to Buster and Castle and loves to talk about them. Here are a few things Julia shared with me about her special boys.

Kitty’s name, nicknames, age and breed:

Buster is six and is a Norwegian Forest Cat.  Castle is two and is a tabby.  Castle’s nickname is Bub.

What do you love about your cat? What are some endearing traits or things your cat does?

I love that both of my cats have different personalities. Castle is lazy, eats a lot, chubby, but he is very sweet. Buster is the alpha animal of the house. Having his younger sibling, Castle, can be hard, plus the two dogs we have. Buster tells everyone who’s boss. If the dogs get in a little fight, Buster gets in between to stop it. Castle loves to be around his brother, Buster. Castle can be skittish, but he’s super sweet.

Was your cat adopted from a rescue group, shelter or something of the like? If yes, what organization? If no, do you care to share their adoption story?

Buster was rescued from the Humane Society, in Nashville. We knew we wanted him since before him, we had two Norwegian Forest Cats. He was a year to two years old, and was happy we took him home. We wonder still, if the two cats before him are related, because they were also rescued there too. Castle has a crazy story. His mom, Autumn, we knew, lived on my uncles porch for a year, and had a litter of kittens! So, my Uncle didn’t want the kittens to get eaten, since his house is in the woods, so he took them inside. There were three girls and two boys in the litter. My brother came over to look after them, and instantly fell in love with the light sherbet colored kitten, we decided to called him Castle.

Did you choose any particular props to be included in the portrait session?

I trusted Angela’s great expertise to do a wonderful job, so I let her do her thing!

What is your kitty’s favorite toy and/or activity?

My kitty’s favorite toy is a bamboo stick and a ski glove.

What is your kitty’s least favorite thing?

Castle absolutely hates plastic bags being rustled, or being held. Being held is hard for him because he’s a chubby kitty, so if you hold him a specific way, he can’t breathe. That’s why I only hold him, because he knows I’m the one that holds him right. Buster really is okay with a lot of things. He loves music, and to play with our puppy. I guess, Buster doesn’t like shrimp.

What is a purrfect day for kitty?

The purrfect day for our cats are to sleep, and lay in the sun with a full belly of food. Also, watching the birds and squirrels.

What is the craziest thing your kitty has ever done?

Buster was so sad one time when my dad left for a trip, he escaped out the door and ran away. We didn’t know for hours and finally went “where’s buster?” We found him in our neighbor’s yard and were so glad he wasn’t lost. Castle, he was so hungry, he jumped on the counter, then onto the table and slid, he’s so silly.

What rules do your kitty like to break?

Eating each others food, and eating any new flowers we get.

How would you describe your overall experience? Any advice for other people considering having their kitty/kitties photographed?

I enjoyed Angela. She has a great eye, and has a great personality!

Luca’s mom (Bethany) and I met volunteering at Williamson County Animal Center in Franklin, TN.  For almost a year I heard all about Luca’s cute and funny antics whenever I saw or was in communication with his mom.  I met Luca once prior to photographing him and was every bit amused and charmed by his curious, friendly, and playful personality!  So when the time came for me to photograph Luca I was hopeful he wouldn’t be camera shy.  Like a pro Luca to turn his charms on for the camera!  I always love knowing how a kitty enters a guardians life and what it is that bonds the two, so I asked Bethany to share a little about Luca’s adoption, his habits, and his purrsonality.  Last but not least, here are some of my favorite images from Luca’s portrait session.  Isn’t he handsome and purrfect?!

Kitty’s name, nicknames, age and breed:  Luca (Pookie), 3yrs, DSH

Date of Session:  February 2016

What do you love about your cat? What are some endearing traits or things your cat does?

I love how friendly Luca is. He loves all people and creatures big and small. He has no fear of anything! He also is very playful and cuddly, best of both worlds.

Was your cat adopted from a rescue group, shelter or something of the like? If yes, what organization? If no, do you care to share their adoption story?

My best friend saw on Facebook that one of her friends found a tiny kitten in her back yard while she was weed waking. Luckily, he was meowing his head off (as usual) and when she saw him she brought him in and kept him for a few days to see if she could find his owner. When no one stepped forward she posted that he was up for adoption and my friend and I quickly contacted her. It was love at first site when I saw him. He weight 1 lb and was only about 5 weeks old. He ran right up to me and started playing with my shoe laces. I quickly made the decision to keep him!

Why did you choose the particular props you provided?

I wanted to get a picture of Luca in his favorite chair. He loves to sit there at night while we watch TV on the couch and just find comfort in those around him.

What is your kitty’s favorite toy and/or activity?

He loves hunting his stuffed animals. Luca has 2 favorite animals he carries around. His black and white kitty (which is a big stuffed animal meant for kids) and his little duck kitty toy. Every day we will hear him pick one up in his mouth and he prances around the whole house with it meowing and howling until he finds one of us humans worthy enough to give it to. When we aren’t home he also carries them around. I know this because I often find the duck in his food or water bowl (swimming of course) or under my covers when I crawl into bed at night!

What is your kitty’s least favorite thing?

Probably when he is alone during some of the days and wants to play.

What is a purrfect day for kitty?

Waking up next to me and then getting a big scoop of his dry food for breakfast, playtime and naps, dinner, and then cuddle time with me or his grandma!

What is the craziest thing your kitty has ever done?

When he was a kitten he tried to chew through ever wire in the house. I tried everything to keep him from doing it. I must of went through 10 iPhone chargers that year!

What rules do your kitty like to break?

He likes to sneak up on our other kitty Penny and jump on her. She is older and doesn’t like his sneaky antics!

How would you describe your overall experience? Any advice for other people considering having their kitty/kitties photographed?

Wonderful and pleasant! Angela is very professional and a true cat lover!
